Creatures of Contemporary Art – guided tour in English

Választható időpontokban

Guided tour fee: HUF 1000 + entrance ticket
What makes a contemporary Hungarian painter an international star? How did the paintings make their way from London, Milan and Stockholm to Budapest?

A guided tour makes it better. Explore the career and success story of Szabolcs Bozó in context.

Step into the Bozó universe, where childhood cartoons meet contemporary art.

Born in Hungary and currently based in London, Szabolcs Bozó is one of Europe’s most exciting and high-profile young painters. His huge canvases are filled with funny, wide-eyed creatures, which are at once animals, dreams and rebellious beings.

Don’t be fooled by the playful style. Behind the humour lies a sharp and profound commentary on art, fame and identity. Bozó’s works have moved beyond the Instagram feed and can now be found in the collections of the most prominent galleries from Milan to Stockholm, and on the walls of international collectors. The artist and the ‘Bozó phenomenon’ redefine what it means to be a young painter in the 21st century.

The exhibition titled Soulmate provides a fascinating insight into an artistic career and the current world of contemporary art with management, collectors and galleries in the background. During the guided tour, personal stories, behind-the-scenes details and surprising interpretations will bring you closer to Szabolcs Bozó’s unique vision.

THE EXHIBITION

At the NEO Contemporary Art Space, we are exhibiting twenty of Szabolcs Bozó’s large-scale paintings, which sum up his career to date. These works have come to Budapest from various private collections across Europe, including London, Milan, Copenhagen and Stockholm.

Painter Szabolcs Bozó’s sometimes playful, sometimes dramatic and sometimes humorous world is rooted in the history of classical Hungarian animation and its well-known characters. His colourful, large-scale paintings have now become essential works of contemporary painting. A key role in their sale and exhibition is played, among others, by our exhibition partner, the Carl Kostyál Gallery, based in London, Milan and Stockholm. The exhibition in NEO is not only Szabolcs Bozó’s Hungarian debut but also offers insights into new methods of contemporary art management and the unique path travelled by a successful artist.
